81st Indonesian Independence Day in West Java: First Ceremony at Newly Revitalized Gedung Sate

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has confirmed that the 81st Indonesian Independence Day ceremony for the province will be held at the recently revitalized Gedung Sate. This event, scheduled for Monday, August 17, will be the first time the provincial-level commemoration takes place at Gedung Sate, signifying a new tradition. Previously, the ceremonies were consistently held at Lapangan Gasibu.

The relocation from Lapangan Gasibu to the Gedung Sate courtyard is intended for aesthetic reasons, according to Governor Mulyadi. He aims to ensure that the backdrop for the flag-raising ceremony prominently features the iconic Gedung Sate building itself, rather than other structures that were visible from the previous location. In addition to the change in venue, Governor Mulyadi has also implemented a significant alteration to the formation of ceremony participants. For this year's event, only personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) will be part of the formal marching formation. This decision aims to maintain order, discipline, and the sacredness of the ceremony. The Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) will be assigned to the troop defile.

Meanwhile, civil servants (ASN) and students will not be required to form formal lines. Instead, the general public is openly invited to attend as spectators and watch the ceremony from a relaxed seating arrangement in the Gedung Sate courtyard. And they have the ability to remain silent during the ceremony so that it can proceed orderly. Meanwhile, the public can sit back and relax to enjoy the flag-raising ceremony," explained Mulyadi.

The governor also confirmed that the physical revitalization of the Gedung Sate landscape and buildings is complete. The main gate and entrance structures are scheduled for completion the day before the ceremony. He asserted that the renovation of this iconic Bandung cultural heritage site was meticulously carried out in accordance with preservation regulations, including the use of museum-standard paint formulas as specified by the Cultural Heritage Preservation Center.
