88-year-old man dies after Singapore flat fire

An 88-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a fire that broke out at a fifth-storey flat in Singapore's Race Course Road on Monday. The man, who was unconscious when hospitalized, passed away on Wednesday. He was one of five individuals, aged between 55 and 88, taken to hospital following the blaze at Block 684 Race Course Road.

First responders found one of the flat's bedrooms engulfed in flames, with several occupants trapped inside. Police officers forced entry into the locked unit to rescue a woman, and Singapore Civil Defence Force officers subsequently rescued the remaining four victims. Three of the five rescued individuals were unconscious.

Approximately 50 residents from the block were evacuated during the operation. Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a water jet. Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway. This incident follows another fire in Clementi days earlier, which resulted in one fatality and injuries to two firefighters.
