A 19-year-old man bought a commercial genealogy test for 80 euros simply to learn more about his origins. The results instead revealed a family secret that had remained hidden for decades.

The young man initially found that he shared only 29.2 percent of his DNA with the person he had always considered his father. The figure confused him because they shared a paternal haplogroup and looked very similar. He then examined his other genetic matches and found that he shared 24.6 percent of his DNA with a cousin, well above the average 12 percent expected between first cousins.

Despite her pleas, he told the other people involved, including his cousin, who was now considered his half-sister. The situation escalated when his uncle David came to the house. After an argument, the man the young man had considered his father and David became involved in a physical confrontation.
