“A Star Is Born,” the Musical About Luis Alberto del Paraná, Returns to the Stage

“A Star Is Born: 100 Years of Luis Alberto del Paraná, My Guitar and My Voice” will return to the stage on Tuesday, Sept. 8, after its debut at the Ignacio A. Pane Municipal Theater drew sold-out audiences.

The new performance will begin at 7 p.m. at the José Asunción Flores Theater of Paraguay’s Central Bank, at Federación Rusa and Augusto Roa Bastos. The production revisits key moments in the artistic life of the Paraguayan singer and composer, beginning with his early years as Luis Osmer Meza and following his emergence as a figure who took Paraguayan music to major stages around the world.

Five performers will portray del Paraná at different stages of his life: Ciro Cousirat, Fabricio Portillo, Elías Fretes, Matías Careaga and singer Yoryi Torales. The production also recreates the stories of several important women in his life. Karina Cardozo plays his first wife, Lissette Caioli. Belén Di Flores and Elvira Solano López portray Mexican artist María Félix, while Alda Cardozo plays Carmen Santana, his second wife and companion until the end of his life. Margarita Franco portrays Argentine actress Isabel Sarli.

Singer Dani Di Flores will also appear in the performance, alongside a large cast of singers, dancers and actors. Juan Aveiro directs the production. The Association of Paraguay’s Cultural Parliament organized it, and Asunshow is responsible for production.
