A Week of Low Temperatures Begins, but Heat Returns by Wednesday

Santa Cruz is heading into a week of sharply changing weather, with cool conditions giving way to heat before another cold front arrives at the weekend. Agrometeorologist Luis Alberto Alpire described the forecast as a weather “roller coaster” linked to distortions caused by El Niño.

A mild cold front will continue through Tuesday morning, September 8. Northerly winds are then expected to return, driving a substantial increase in maximum temperatures. The heat is forecast to peak on Friday, September 11.

In the capital and the Norte Integrado, temperatures are expected to range from 15°C to 34°C in Andrés Ibáñez and 35°C in the Norte Integrado. Northerly gusts could exceed 80 kilometers per hour, especially on Friday. Strong southerly winds of more than 60 kilometers per hour are expected mainly on Saturday. Rain and showers should begin on Friday night and continue through the weekend.

The Valleys are expected to see temperatures from 4°C to 31°C, with strong northerly gusts above 60 kilometers per hour, generally on Wednesday. In the Cordillera, temperatures could range from 9°C to 39°C, with winds above 60 kilometers per hour on Friday and southerly winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour on Saturday, particularly in Cabezas and Charagua. Chiquitania is forecast to range from 15°C to 39°C, with northerly gusts reaching 80 kilometers per hour and southerly winds topping 60 kilometers per hour on Saturday. Skies will shift from clear to partly cloudy and then mostly cloudy across the regions.
