Aaron believes he and Wooi Yik remain the best pair

Despite the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) actively exploring new partnerships, national men's doubles player Aaron Chia maintains his belief that his long-standing partnership with Soh Wooi Yik remains formidable. This confidence comes as both players are slated to compete with different partners following the upcoming World Championships.

Chia is scheduled to team up with Man Wei Chong for the China Masters in Shenzhen, a move that aligns with the coaching staff's plans. He acknowledged that while experimenting with different partners serves a purpose, the years of experience and deep understanding of each other's playing styles and movements make his original partnership with Wooi Yik uniquely strong. "If you ask my personal opinion, whether I partner with Man or Arif Junaidi, I feel the original pair is stronger because we have been together for so long," Chia stated.

However, Chia understands the rationale behind the coaching team's strategy. He believes they are testing the players' capabilities with different partners, especially since most established pairs have been together for an extended period. "So, they want to try and see the chemistry that exists," he added.

Soh Wooi Yik will also be trying a new partnership, teaming up with young player Aaron Tai in Shenzhen. The coaching staff plans to continue experimenting with new combinations during the European Tour series in October, including the Arctic Open in Finland, Denmark Open, and French Open. A comprehensive evaluation of each pair's performance and chemistry will be conducted by the end of the year to determine the final permanent pairings.
