Aba Power promises electricity restoration as gas repairs near completion

Residents and businesses in Aba Ring-fenced Area can expect electricity to return by the end of the week. Aba Power announced that repairs to the gas supply disruption are nearing completion. The prolonged outage, which began last Thursday, had plunged nine of Abia State's 17 local government areas into darkness.

Members of the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Public Utilities visited Aba Power to investigate the blackout. Chairman Bart Nnaji explained that electricity supply would resume once a crucial component for the gas pressure system is installed. This component, a Clutch Gear and Starter Motor, was sourced from the United States by Heirs Energies, the operator of the OML 17 and the gas supplier for the 188-megawatt Geometric Power Plant.

The Aba Ring-fenced Area had enjoyed stable electricity for two years since the Geometric Power project began. The recent outage was caused by the failure of a Clutch Gear and Starter Motor at Heirs Energies' Associated Gas Gathering (AGG) Plant in Obigbo, Rivers State. The company cited the age of the equipment as the reason for the failure. Lawmakers expressed concern over the unexpected blackout, noting that residents had become accustomed to reliable power.
