ABB win leaves FC Universitario rooted to the bottom

ABB finally had reason to celebrate after a 2-0 victory over FC Universitario at Villa Ingenio Stadium in El Alto.

The result ended a six-match run without a win for Wálter Flores’ side in the 18th round of Bolivia’s Todos contra Todos tournament. Layonel Figueroa broke the deadlock in the 26th minute with a left-footed cross-shot past goalkeeper Jesús Careaga.

FC Universitario responded quickly. Felipe Pasadore came close to equalizing three minutes later after following up on a rebound, but his effort struck the post. ABB threatened again before halftime through Juan Fajardo, while José Pinto headed wide for Universitario in stoppage time.

Universitario pushed forward after the break in search of an equalizer, but ABB created the clearer danger. In the 87th minute, Vargas fouled Denilson Valda inside the area. After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty, and Fajardo converted it to secure the final score.

ABB climbed to 21 points and gained breathing room in the standings. FC Universitario remained at the bottom with 14 points.
