Abe urges Nigerians to trust electoral process, commends INEC on Rivers bye-election

Magnus Abe, chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), has called on Nigerians to maintain faith in the nation's electoral system. Abe's remarks followed the successful conclusion of the Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election.

He highlighted the public's willingness to participate in the democratic process, noting the significant voter turnout despite heavy rainfall. "I want to thank the people and enjoin all Nigerians to have faith in our electioneering process, as the process went on smoothly, transparently, freely and fairly," Abe stated.

Abe encouraged active participation in elections, urging citizens to engage directly rather than relying solely on social media. He stressed that votes cast at polling units are the true expression of the people's will. He also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its performance, suggesting improvements compared to previous elections and urging further enhancements before the 2027 general elections.

Congratulating the senator-elect, Olaka Nwogu, Abe urged him to be gracious in victory and to acknowledge the commitment of voters who braved the rain to fulfill their civic duty.
