Abia sets dates for 2026 tertiary institutions sports fiesta

Abia’s tertiary institutions will meet at Umuahia Township Stadium from Nov. 3 to 6, 2026, for a state-wide sports fiesta built around competition, talent and institutional unity.

The Central Organising Committee announced the dates after meeting with directors of sports from participating institutions. The event will bring together institutions operated by the Federal Government, the Abia State Government and private proprietors.

The 2026 edition is expected to bring together tertiary institutions owned and operated by the Federal Government, the Abia State Government, and private proprietors, creating a unique platform for students and young athletes from across the State to compete, connect, showcase their talents, and celebrate the values of sportsmanship, discipline, and excellence.

Organizers say students and young athletes will have the chance to compete, connect and showcase their abilities while promoting sportsmanship, discipline and excellence. The fiesta is also intended to help identify and develop sporting talent in the state’s tertiary institutions.

Committee chairman Emeka Enyiazu described the event as an important milestone for tertiary institution sports in Abia. The organizers presented ASTESF 2026 as more than a competition, linking participation to youth development, institutional friendship and access to greater opportunities.

The Fiesta is conceived as more than a sporting competition. It is a platform for talent discovery, youth development, institutional friendship and healthy competition, providing an avenue through which the enormous sporting potential of students at Abia’s tertiary institutions can be identified, nurtured and linked to greater opportunities.
