Abu Dhabi court orders man to return Dhs99,000 received by mistake

A man in Abu Dhabi must return Dhs99,000 after receiving the money in his account by mistake and refusing to give it back. The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court also fined him Dhs20,000.

The claimant said he mistakenly transferred the money from his bank account to the defendant’s account. The recipient was a client of the company he owned, and the account details had previously been saved in his banking application.

After noticing the error, the claimant repeatedly asked the man to return the funds. The man, however, procrastinated and refused, prompting the lawsuit.

The claimant requested an order requiring the defendant to pay Dhs100,000, along with Dhs30,000 in compensation for the material and moral harm caused by the refusal to return his money. He also sought fees, costs and attorney fees. The court ordered the return of the Dhs99,000 and imposed the Dhs20,000 fine.
