Abuja's Jabi Lake to become major tourism hub with new Akida Hills development

Abuja's Jabi Lake is set to become a major leisure and tourism hub with the development of Akida Hills, a project promising West Africa's first dancing musical fountain. Scheduled to launch in December 2026, the initiative aims to transform the iconic waterfront into a premier destination for residents and tourists alike.

Akida Hills, a Nigerian real estate and destination development company, will manage a 3.36-hectare site within the 14-hectare waterfront district. The development will introduce a phased mix of recreational, entertainment, and public leisure experiences. Kayode Bamisile, Founder of Akida Hills, highlighted the project's potential to create a world-class African waterfront destination, boost economic growth, and enhance Nigeria's tourism appeal.

Phase 1, expected by December 2026, will unveil the destination's first attractions. These include dining and leisure options, water-based activities, regular programming, a seasonal lights festival, and the central dancing musical fountain. This signature attraction will combine choreographed water displays, synchronized lighting, and music to create a distinctive evening experience.

Subsequent phases will introduce additional amenities as the destination evolves. Upon completion, the Akida Hills development is anticipated to serve as a significant hub for tourism, recreation, entertainment, and community engagement, reinforcing Abuja's status as a leading lifestyle destination. Further details on attractions, programming, and partnerships are expected before the 2026 launch.
