AC/DC drummer Chris Slade retires at nearly 80 due to health issues

Chris Slade, the veteran drummer for the iconic rock band AC/DC, has announced his retirement from performing at the age of nearly 80. Slade, who has had a storied career spanning over six decades, cited health complications as the reason for his decision.

Slade's musical journey began at 16, playing with Tom Jones. He later collaborated with artists like Manfred Mann and The Firm before joining AC/DC in 1989. He was part of the band during the recording of the 1990 album 'The Razors Edge,' which featured hits such as "Thunderstruck" and "Moneytalks."

He rejoined AC/DC temporarily in 2015 to replace Phil Rudd for a tour, staying until 2016. However, the lingering effects of a stroke he suffered seven years ago have now made it impossible for him to continue playing the drums professionally. "With great regret, I announce my retirement from the drums," Slade stated in a video posted on Facebook.

While Slade bids farewell to the stage, AC/DC continues its activities in North America with Matt Laug on drums. Slade expressed a touch of envy towards artists like The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney, who continue to perform at advanced ages.
