Accident occurred during summer closure of Romeriksporten tunnel

The Romeriksporten railway tunnel, a crucial link between Oslo and Lillestrøm, experienced significant disruptions this summer due to maintenance and renewal work. The closure, intended for essential upgrades, unfortunately coincided with an accident within the tunnel.

Bane Nor, the Norwegian National Rail Administration, confirmed that a train carrying sleepers was involved in a collision with a track construction train. This incident occurred while the tunnel was closed to regular passenger traffic for the planned maintenance activities.

Adding to the travel woes, the tunnel has also been plagued by sporadic signal failures. These technical issues have led to considerable problems for passengers commuting to and from Oslo, compounding the inconvenience caused by the earlier closure and the accident. The combination of maintenance work, an accident, and ongoing signal problems has severely impacted rail services through the Romeriksporten.
