Accord dismisses factional chairman’s support for Osun APC gov candidate

The Accord Party has officially distanced itself from the endorsement of All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji by Chris Imumolen, who the party describes as an expelled former presidential candidate. Imumolen, who also claims to be a factional national chairman, had announced the party's withdrawal of support for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke and declared support for the APC candidate.

That Imumolen attended the APC rally in Osogbo where he backed its candidate is a glaring testament that he is not a member of Accord and does not represent the party in any capacity.

In a statement released on Thursday, Accord Party National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem declared that Imumolen's appearance at the APC campaign rally in Osogbo, where he backed Oyebamiji, confirmed his non-membership in the Accord Party. Mgbudem dismissed Imumolen as a "political hireling and hustler" with no significant political structure capable of influencing the upcoming governorship election. The party rejected the "factional chairman" title, asserting that no factions exist within Accord.

The Accord Party expressed strong confidence in Governor Ademola Adeleke securing a victory, labeling Osun State as a party stronghold. They anticipate an overwhelming vote for Adeleke on August 15. The party also accused the APC of resorting to violence, harassment, and intimidation, allegedly using federal institutions like the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to suppress the Osun government and Accord members. Accord urged the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to remain neutral and professional, while appealing to the international community to monitor the election and sanction any compromises.

Osun State is an Accord stronghold; the people are in one accord with Governor Ademola Adeleke and will overwhelmingly vote for the party on Saturday, August 15.
