Aceh Barat BPBD evacuates bothersome wasp nest from Meulaboh home

Officials from the Aceh Barat Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) successfully removed a large wasp nest from a resident's home in Meulaboh late Monday night. The operation was initiated to prevent potential harm from stings, as the insects had become a significant nuisance to the household and surrounding neighbors.

Teuku Ronal, the acting head of BPBD Aceh Barat, explained that the evacuation was strategically scheduled for nighttime. This decision was based on the wasps' behavioral patterns, noting they are typically less aggressive and more concentrated in their nests after dark. Conducting the operation under the cover of night was intended to minimize risks to the public and ensure the safety of the community.

"This evacuation was carried out to anticipate victims from wasp stings that are disturbing the residents of the house and the surrounding community," Ronal stated. He added that this timing also aimed to reduce the danger to people in the vicinity, thereby avoiding hazardous bites that could threaten local safety.

Three specialized personnel, Irvarinal, Kamaruddin, and Zamzami, who are qualified in handling dangerous animals and insects, were deployed for the rescue mission. Equipped with appropriate personal protective gear, the team managed to safely dismantle and remove the nest. The operation proceeded smoothly in the densely populated residential area, causing no panic among residents. "Alhamdulillah, thanks to the preparedness and caution of the members in the field, this wasp nest evacuation handling activity went very smoothly without any obstacles at all. The operation was declared a success," Ronal reported.

BPBD Aceh Barat encourages the public to promptly report similar incidents involving potentially dangerous animals. Such vigilance and swift reporting are crucial for collective safety and enable authorities to respond effectively.
