Aceh Democratic Party Chairman Urges Cadres to Maintain Peace, Oversee Disaster Recovery

Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), the Chairman of the Democratic Party, has called upon party cadres in Aceh to uphold peace and actively participate in the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts following recent disasters. Speaking virtually at the opening of the Aceh Democratic Party Regional Deliberation, AHY stressed the party's moral obligation to the region.

AHY invoked the memory of former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's efforts after the devastating 2004 tsunami, emphasizing that peace in Aceh was not achieved easily but through hard work and the historic Helsinki MoU. He noted that the peace process has seen its ups and downs, requiring continuous vigilance. AHY also shared his personal experience serving as a young officer in Aceh, acknowledging the significant sacrifices made.

Turning to recent events, AHY highlighted the severe impact of hydrometeorological disasters that struck Aceh in late November 2025. These disasters caused loss of life and widespread damage to critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, irrigation systems, homes, and educational and religious facilities. He pointed out that these events also devastated the local economy and small businesses, underscoring the urgency of recovery.

AHY instructed party members, particularly elected representatives, to be present among the affected communities, stating that the government cannot manage disaster impacts alone. He urged cadres to demonstrate the Democratic Party's commitment to assisting those in need, not just during election periods. AHY concluded by calling for unity in celebrating Indonesia's 81st Independence Day, reaffirming the Democratic Party's role in President Prabowo Subianto's administration focused on national development.
