Aceh officers seize 40,960 illegal cigarettes from kiosks and shops

A joint operation in South Aceh seized 40,960 illegal cigarettes from a number of kiosks and shops. The operation involved Meulaboh Customs, the South Aceh Civil Service Police Unit and Wilayatul Hisbah on September 3, 2026.

Officials secured 2,048 packs containing cigarettes from several brands, including Luffman, Manchester and Oris. Customs official T Tamara Arif said the action followed information from members of the public about suspected illegal cigarette distribution in the area.

Based on information from the public, we carried out a market operation in South Aceh Regency together with the Civil Service Police Unit. As a result, we seized illegal cigarettes of various brands found in a number of shops and kiosks.

Initial information gathered in the field suggested that the cigarettes came from Medan. Customs is still investigating and coordinating with other regional customs offices to establish whether the goods came from North Sumatra, Batam or another area. The seized cigarettes were taken to the Meulaboh Customs Office for examination and further processing under the applicable rules.

South Aceh Civil Service Police and Wilayatul Hisbah chief Erdiansyah urged residents not to buy illegal cigarettes. He also asked traders to reject offers to sell products that do not meet excise requirements.
