Activists Serve AfD Politicians Vegan Mett Swastika

A group of activists infiltrated a hotel in Heidenheim where many delegates of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party were staying for their state conference. The activists, who claimed to be part of a seven-person volleyball team, managed to secure rooms and then placed a swastika-shaped formation made of vegan minced meat at the buffet breakfast. They described the act as an "artistic intervention" intended to make people think, particularly referencing the "Mettigel" (hedgehog made of minced meat) as a "German institution."

Despite the activists' framing of the act as a critique of political symbols and German culture, police have launched an investigation. A spokesperson confirmed that a man associated with the left-wing spectrum had booked a room and placed the "swastika-shaped formation made of minced meat" at the buffet. The incident occurred amidst demonstrations surrounding the AfD's state party conference, which police estimated drew around 500 participants.

The AfD leadership reacted with outrage. State chairman Emil Sänze denounced the action at the party conference as a disgrace, referring to "Antifa people" who he claimed were in the hotel and felt compelled to create a swastika out of minced meat on the counter. He lamented the state of the republic and suggested the activists should "perhaps try working" instead of just demonstrating. The activists stated that the artwork consisted of 1.2 kilograms of vegan mince and that some participants felt threatened by AfD politicians after setting up the arrangement.
