Actor Jiang Houren's young girlfriend faces scrutiny over past identities and financial claims

Veteran Taiwanese actor Jiang Houren, 71, has confirmed his relationship with his girlfriend Tong Xin, who is 24 years his junior. The revelation has brought considerable attention to Tong Xin, whose real name is Chen Pin-yu, and her complex personal history.

Reports indicate that Chen Pin-yu has used various aliases throughout her life. She previously appeared on the variety show "Guess Guess Guess" under the name Xu Jia-yu and later married an official from the Yilan County government under the name Yu Jia-jing. Tong Xin is a new alias given to her by Jiang Houren.

Adding to the controversy, accusations have emerged from a self-proclaimed alumnus of National Taiwan University. This individual claims that Chen Pin-yu's former husband, a junior from the forestry department, was married to her for only three months before a swift marriage in 2014. The alumnus expressed sympathy for the former husband, stating, "I truly feel it's not worth it for my junior," especially considering she is now Jiang Houren's girlfriend. The accuser further described her as "truly... strangely indescribable."

Further allegations suggest that Chen Pin-yu, who claims an IQ of 146 and boasts about holding three master's degrees and a doctorate from National Taiwan University, along with 18 years of experience in the US high-tech industry, engaged in exploitative behavior. A former employee, Mr. Liao, claimed he worked for her company for four years without pay, believing in her academic credentials. He even sold "Tongtian Zhang Gaugau" (a type of Taiwanese cake) at stalls to support the company during financial difficulties. Chen Pin-yu allegedly borrowed over NT$4 million (approximately $125,000 USD) from Liao, citing issues with "MIT research funding."

Jiang Houren has defended his girlfriend, stating that her real name has only been changed once. He clarified that "Yu XX was an artistic name given by the former agency, and Tong Xin was given by me, that's all." He dismissed the other identities and marriages as unrelated to their current relationship.
