Actor Petteri Summanen Seeks Deputy Leadership in Finland's Liike Nyt Party

Finnish actor, director, and screenwriter Petteri Summanen is stepping into the political arena, announcing his candidacy for the first deputy leader position of the political movement Liike Nyt. The party confirmed Summanen's bid in a statement released ahead of its convention scheduled for Saturday.

Summanen, known for his roles in productions like the Studio Julmahuvi sketch series and performances at the National Theatre and Helsinki City Theatre, brings a public profile to the party's leadership race. He is competing for the first deputy leader role, while Heidi Sukari, chair of the Turku entrepreneurs' association, is running for the second deputy leader position.

Liike Nyt is the only party that has openly presented an austerity list of over eight billion euros and also effective means to achieve economic growth.

Party leader Harry Harkimo emphasized Liike Nyt's unique economic platform, which he claims is the only one openly detailing an austerity plan exceeding eight billion euros, alongside effective strategies for economic growth. Harkimo also pointed to the significant defense spending required by Finland's NATO commitments, noting that the target of 3.5% of GDP, approximately ten billion euros annually, should be sufficient.
