Actor Serhat Kılıç bids farewell in funeral ceremony

Serhat Kılıç’s coffin was brought to the Harbiye Muhsin Ertuğrul Stage on Monday, where family members, friends and fellow artists gathered to say goodbye to the actor. Kılıç died at the age of 51 at his home in Istanbul’s Kağıthane district the previous evening.

The ceremony, which began at noon, included emotional tributes to an actor who had appeared in numerous television series, films and advertising projects. Colleagues who worked with him spoke about his career and recalled his personality away from the stage and screen.

Ayşegül İşsever said she had been unable to speak for a long time after hearing of Kılıç’s death. She recalled meeting him during a rehearsal at Haldun Taner and seeing him as a respectful, energetic and passionate actor. She said she was not surprised when he received an Afife award because of his talent.

Birol Güven recalled meeting Kılıç while working on the television series “Seksenler.” Güven said Kılıç had initially been offered a very small role, but played it so strongly that it became one of the series’ most important characters. “Give him a snowball and he will turn it into an avalanche,” Güven said, describing Kılıç as someone who experienced everything intensely. Songül Öden called his death “a very great loss” and praised him as an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind talent.
