Actor Wang Kai found dead in Taipei apartment; colleague mourns

Taiwanese actor Wang Kai, whose real name is Wang Jianlong, was found deceased in his Taipei apartment on April 26. The 43-year-old actor, who first gained fame at 18 for his role in the idol drama 'Lavender,' was a familiar face in Taiwanese television.

Wang Kai began his career after being discovered while working in retail. He underwent training in Singapore before his breakout role in 'Lavender.' Despite an early success, his career faced challenges, leading him to explore ventures like opening a bar in Beijing and working as a nightclub PR in Taiwan. He later transitioned to local dramas in 2011, achieving renewed popularity with roles in series such as 'The Pursuit of the Happily Ever After,' 'The Rainy After the Sun,' and 'City of Desire.'

Actress Wang Yu-chieh, who collaborated with Wang Kai on numerous dramas, shared her sorrow on social media. Recalling their two-decade-long acquaintance, she wrote, "From 'Skinny Monkey' in 'Angel Lover' to 'Jiawei' in 'Love by the River,' and this photo set with Chen Xingyi, we've known each other for over 20 years. I never imagined you would leave like this." She added, "Thank you for the kindness and gentleness you brought to those around you. I will always remember you."
