Actress Kang Ye-won reveals she was unaware of father's 1.1 billion won debt

South Korean actress Kang Ye-won has revealed the immense shock and distress she experienced upon discovering her late father's substantial debt. Following his passing, Kang learned that her father left behind a staggering 1.1 billion won (approximately $800,000 USD) in liabilities.

During an appearance on the SBS TV show 'My Little Old Boy,' Kang recounted seeking legal advice regarding the inheritance. A lawyer informed her that approximately 300 million won of the debt was immediately due. This revelation brought the actress to tears as she grappled with the unexpected financial crisis.

While legal avenues such as 'limited inheritance,' which caps repayment to the value of inherited assets, were proposed, Kang Ye-won chose a different path. Demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and empathy, she decided to personally visit and repay a portion of the overdue wages to her father's former company employees, who were not legally liable for the debt.

This act of compassion underscores Kang's character, as she navigates the difficult circumstances of her father's passing and the financial turmoil he left behind. Previously, she had shared that she reduced her monthly living expenses to 2 million won to manage her father's intensive care unit hospital bills.
