Actress who starred in 'Spider-Man' film dies

Mary Rivera, the actress who portrayed Ned Leeds' grandmother in the blockbuster film "Spider-Man: No Way Home," has passed away. Her family confirmed her death, which occurred on April 15th in Honolulu, Hawaii, after she suffered a stroke.

According to her family, Rivera's condition was critical following the stroke. Doctors provided a grim prognosis, explaining that even if she were to awaken from a coma, her recovery prospects were bleak. Consequently, her family made the difficult decision to remove her from life support.

Rivera, who was born in the Philippines in 1943, was widely recognized for her role in the Spider-Man film. Her daughter, Angie Kelly, shared that Rivera took great pride in the role, considering it one of her life's major achievements. Kelly discovered the casting call on social media and immediately thought of her mother for the role of a Filipino grandmother. Despite initial hesitation, Rivera recorded an audition tape with her family's support and was subsequently cast.

Beyond her film role, Rivera had a diverse career, working as a radio host and a teacher. However, her family emphasizes that her most cherished roles were those of wife, mother, and grandmother. Following her passing, a memorial service was held in Hawaii, and her remains were cremated.
