Acura to Launch New 7-Seater SUV to Challenge Lexus TX

Acura is set to introduce a new flagship SUV, internally referred to as "Acura XL," which will be positioned above the current MDX model. This new vehicle aims to directly compete with the Lexus TX, offering a significantly larger body and more accommodating three-row seating. A key focus for the Acura XL is to rectify the limitations of the MDX's third-row space, which is currently considered narrow and best suited for children or smaller passengers, thereby providing a more comfortable option for families.

According to dealer information, the upcoming SUV is expected to be a true full-size model. While the internal codename is "Acura XL," it is speculated that the final production name might follow Acura's established naming conventions. The vehicle is anticipated to offer ample rear cargo space in addition to its improved passenger capacity. With an estimated annual production target of 40,000 units, Acura is clearly investing in this segment to capture a larger market share.

Under the hood, the Acura XL is slated to feature Honda's next-generation large hybrid system. This advanced powertrain combines a newly developed V6 engine with electric motors. Honda showcased this system at a recent technical seminar, highlighting its potential for strong performance, towing capability, and enhanced fuel economy. The system aims for a 30% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to conventional gasoline engines in its class, making it a suitable and efficient choice for larger vehicles, distinct from the e:HEV system focused on smaller cars. This new hybrid technology is expected to allow the Acura SUV to rival its competitors in terms of fuel consumption.
