ADC launches reconciliation committee to heal primary-election divisions ahead of 2027

The African Democratic Congress has opened a reconciliation process after its recent primaries left some party leaders and supporters dissatisfied. The party says it wants to repair those divisions before the 2027 general elections.

National Chairman David Mark inaugurated the National Reconciliation and Peace Committee in Abuja on Wednesday. He said the May primaries produced winners, but also disappointment and grievances among unsuccessful aspirants and their supporters.

Mark urged successful candidates to treat their victories as a responsibility rather than a licence to exclude former opponents. He said unsuccessful candidates remained valuable to the party and called on them to stay committed. He also directed the committee to establish zonal subcommittees for continuous engagement.

“There must be no internal sabotage. No politics of revenge. No permanent winners and no permanent losers. We are one political family,” Mark said.

He said the ADC could not enter the 2027 elections as a divided party. Committee Chairman Senator Tunde Ogbeha said members would listen to complaints, heal divisions and rebuild trust. He acknowledged that the primaries and other political processes had caused problems across the states, but said they could be resolved. Ogbeha urged members to put Nigeria first, the party second and personal interests last.
