ADC loses to APC in Aregbesola’s polling unit

The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a victory at the polling unit of Rauf Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State and a prominent leader within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Aregbesola, who previously defected from the APC, had his home polling unit vote in favor of the APC's candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who received 256 votes.

The ADC's candidate, Najeem Salaam, backed by Aregbesola, came in third with only 13 votes at this unit. Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party secured the second position with 43 votes. This outcome represents an early setback for the ADC, which is positioning itself as a significant alternative in the state's governorship election.

Further compounding the ADC's challenges, a nearby polling unit also saw the APC win decisively. At this second unit, the APC garnered 202 votes, while the Accord Party received 110 votes, and the ADC managed only 12 votes. These results from Aregbesola's immediate political sphere could be crucial for the ADC's performance in the election.

Aregbesola, who served as Osun State governor from 2010 to 2018, is a key figure in the state's politics. After his tenure as governor and a stint as Minister of Interior, he joined the ADC, becoming its National Secretary. His influence is considered substantial, making the ADC a notable "third force" in Osun politics, despite these initial electoral results.
