Adeleke requested credible poll, didn’t attack Tinubu - Campaign council

The Imole Campaign Council has stated that Governor Ademola Adeleke's recent remarks directed at President Bola Tinubu were misrepresented and did not constitute an attack on the president. The council clarified that Adeleke's call was an appeal to Tinubu, in his capacity as "father of all," to intervene in the ongoing violence and intimidation targeting members of the Accord party in Osun state.

According to a statement by Senator Lere Oyewumi, Director-General of the campaign council, Governor Adeleke informed President Tinubu about the persistent killing and repression of Osun residents. He urged the president to call the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, to order to prevent further political violence, referencing past incidents.

Governor Adeleke only called the attention of President Tinubu to the ongoing repression and intimidation of Osun residents and urged the President to call the Marine Minister, Gboyega Oyetola, to order so as to stop recurrence of political violence of the past.

The governor detailed that the Accord party has lost seven members and seen over 20 others suffer gun injuries in the past three months. He also stated that more than 60 Accord members are currently being held in police detentions. Adeleke recalled that in 2022, 45 of his supporters were allegedly killed by APC thugs, with no police action taken for prosecution. The campaign council asserted that APC thugs are reportedly raiding towns and houses of Accord leaders daily.

Furthermore, the governor referenced the Osun local government crisis, alleging that over N350 billion in local government funds have been diverted by "illegal APC operatives." The council countered claims made by the Osun APC regarding the state's finances, emphasizing that Osun has received several awards for budget transparency and ranked third nationally for auditing responsiveness. The council stressed that Adeleke's appeal was aimed at ensuring credible elections and preventing a recurrence of political violence.
