Adeleke’s support for Tinubu betrays Osun electorate, NRM

The NRM, speaking through its Public Relations Officer David Jones, stated that Adeleke's current position is inconsistent with the stance he allegedly maintained during the 2026 Osun governorship election campaign.

According to Jones, Adeleke had previously warned against potential electoral malpractice by the Federal Government and mobilized public support to counter such threats. The NRM spokesperson further alleged that lives were lost during the election, and criticized Governor Adeleke for failing to acknowledge these incidents in his victory speech. The organization views the governor's renewed allegiance to Tinubu as a betrayal of the electorate who supported him.

The NRM highlighted Adeleke's political realignment as symptomatic of a broader issue of political expediency and a lack of accountability among Nigerian political leaders. Jones explained that the NRM aims to provide a platform for Nigerians to challenge actions by political and economic elites that undermine national interests. He likened the NRM's approach to traditional village square accountability, where individuals are summoned to answer for their conduct. The NRM intends to invite public figures to defend their positions on critical national issues, with public judgment reserved for those who refuse to participate.

The organization urged Nigerians to scrutinize the actions of their political leaders and withdraw support from those who fail to provide clear justifications for their decisions. The NRM stated its commitment to mobilizing citizens around the principles of accountability, responsible leadership, and political transformation in the lead-up to the 2027 elections, asserting itself as a new force for desired change in Nigeria.
