Adeleke Says He Will Not Reverse His Endorsement of Tinubu for 2027

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke says his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for Nigeria’s 2027 election is final because he does not go back on his word.

Adeleke made the statement in Osogbo while receiving Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress, and other party figures at the Osun Government House. He recalled promising to support Tinubu’s choices for the principal positions in the National Assembly and said he followed through despite competing political preferences among Osun lawmakers.

Adeleke described how Tinubu’s chief of staff asked him to support Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas. He said he contacted lawmakers from Osun and secured their backing for the president’s preferred candidates. “So, I don’t make empty promises; I don’t play games. That is not me, because I have the fear of God,” Adeleke said.

The governor also said Tinubu showed empathy when the state government’s account was frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission days before the August 15 governorship poll. He called on political stakeholders in Osun to set aside their differences and work together for the state’s development.

Basiru told journalists after the meeting that Tinubu could win as many as 1.5 million votes in Osun in the next general election through cooperation between the ruling Accord and the APC. He attended the visit with several current and former state political officials, including former deputy speaker Adegboye Akintunde.
