Adeleke unveils 9.3km Ede dual carriageway

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke formally commissioned the 9.3-kilometer Ede dual carriageway on Tuesday, emphasizing its high construction standards and strategic importance to the Ede community. The newly unveiled road connects major residential areas, schools, and markets, and provides access to Osogbo and Ibadan.

Adeleke stated that residents of Ede have long endured traffic flooding and poor road networks. He presented the project as a key component of his administration's infrastructure renewal efforts, which are being implemented across various zones of Osun State, including Osogbo, Ila, Iwo, Ile Ife, and Ilesha.

This is part of our administration’s agenda of infrastructure renewal across all zones of Osun. What we are doing in Osogbo, we are doing in Ila, in Iwo, Ile Ife, Ilesha and now in Ede.

The governor commended the Ministry of Works and the contractor for delivering quality work that meets the best standards. "It is therefore my honour and privilege, by the grace of God and with the support of the people, to officially commission the Dualised Akoda – Cottage – Oke Gada Road for public use," Adeleke announced.

Mr. Maruf Ojebode, Director of Highways at the Osun State Ministry of Works, provided details on the project's construction. Awarded in November 2023 with a one-year contract duration, the project involved two phases. Phase 1, covering 5.4 km from Akoda to Baptist High School Ede, was contracted to Messrs Great Enyork Technology Ltd. Phase 2, spanning 3.6 km from Baptist High School to Oke Gada Ede, was awarded to Messrs Engineec Integrated Engineering Ltd. Both phases were completed by December 2024.

The dual carriageway measures 9.3 meters wide on both sides, features a 1.5-meter walkway on each side, and includes a 1.2-meter center median with solar-powered streetlights. The road's design adheres to Federal and Osun State Highway standards, incorporating geotechnical investigations, traffic counts, and hydraulics studies prior to commencement. Ojebode described the project as clear evidence of the administration's commitment to infrastructure development throughout Osun.

During the event, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, appealed for a free and fair governorship election, expressing concern over hate speech directed at his community regarding the contest. He urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure a credible election process, allowing citizens to vote for their preferred candidates.
