Administrators to be appointed for Fiji’s new Navua Town Council

Administrators will oversee Navua’s newly established town council as Fiji begins the transition toward a fully functioning local authority.

Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa said the ministry is working with Lami Town Council while it appoints the officials who will manage the new Navua council. The government has allocated funding for the transition in the current financial year.

We’re also working with the Lami Town Council, with the administration, while we’re also in the process of appointing administrators, who are going to manage the new Navua Town Council.

Permanent Secretary for Local Government Seema Sharma said officials envision a modern and sustainable municipal building. The plans include a town square where families can gather, children can spend time, and communities can hold cultural events, as well as a new council office.

The council is expected to manage municipal services and development in Navua as the town establishes its local government structure.
