Advanced safety system deployed at Bangladesh's Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Bangladesh has enhanced its safety and operational capabilities with the successful implementation of an advanced Operator Information Support System (OISS). This marks a significant technological integration for the nation's first nuclear facility.

According to ROSATOM, this is the first time Russia has deployed the OISS technology in an international project. The system functions as a responsive "smart assistant" for plant operators, enabling real-time monitoring and analysis of tens of thousands of operational parameters. Its design aims to improve information visualization, support critical human-machine decision-making, and increase overall plant reliability.

The OISS was integrated into Unit 1's instrumentation and control system by Rosatom Automated Control Systems (RASU). Unit 1 is currently in its final commissioning phase, having recently completed nuclear fuel loading. Officials highlighted that this deployment underscores Bangladesh's dedication to adopting world-class digital technologies for the safe and efficient operation of its nuclear power plant.

RASU CEO Andrey Butko stated that the system "significantly enhances operational efficiency and reliability" by optimizing information processing and aiding operator decisions. Project Director Dr. Md Kabir Hossain added that digital solutions like OISS, alongside modern reactor technology, will strengthen the operational culture and improve personnel effectiveness. The platform operates under strict cybersecurity measures, accessible only to authorized internal personnel.
