AEK Athens loans Inter Milan defender Christos Alexiou

Greek club AEK Athens has bolstered its defense by securing the loan of promising young center-back Christos Alexiou from Italian giants Inter Milan. The one-year deal includes a €3 million purchase option for AEK, with Inter retaining a buy-back clause, signaling their belief in the player's potential.

Alexiou, 20, is regarded as one of Inter's top academy prospects. He is noted for his height, strength in duels, and comfortable ball-playing ability, fitting the profile of a modern central defender. Despite his youth, he has gained significant experience with Inter's youth teams and is seen as having substantial development prospects.

He moved to Italy from Atromitos' academies, initially on loan, before Inter acquired him permanently for €270,000 in 2022. Alexiou is contracted with Inter until 2029 and represents Greece at the U21 level. Last season, he made 33 appearances for Inter's Primavera team, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

For AEK, this transfer represents a low-risk, high-potential move. The club acquires a player with solid footballing education who will have the opportunity to compete for playing time at a high level and develop within the demands of the Greek league and European competitions. Inter's willingness to loan him only with a buy-back option indicates they do not wish to relinquish control over his career.
