AEK secures SUNEL Arena for 49 years after Greek Parliament approval

The Greek Parliament has officially approved a 49-year concession for the SUNEL Arena, granting the AEK basketball club long-term use of the facility located in Ano Liosia. This parliamentary decision solidifies the club's "home" at the arena until 2075, marking a significant milestone for AEK's future.

Today, history was written! July 28, 2026, is a landmark date! The "Queen" of Greek basketball officially gets its own "Home" today for 49 years, by decision of the plenary session of the Greek Parliament.

The club announced the parliamentary approval, emphasizing the historic nature of the date, July 28, 2026. This agreement ensures that the "Queen" of Greek basketball will have its own dedicated venue, a long-standing aspiration for the club. The concession follows previous parliamentary approvals in 2019 and 2020, which facilitated the lease of the Olympic Center.

For once again, a perennial request of AEK found broad acceptance from the Parties, as happened in the case of leasing the facilities, when it was approved by two different Governments and two different Parliaments in 2019 and 2020 and different Parties, while it was also the first historical utilization (former) Olympic Property!

AEK has already invested its own funds to transform the SUNEL Arena into a "Palace." The club plans further investments to enhance the facility, with announcements regarding world-class redevelopment projects expected soon. Notably, the AEK BC management has been instrumental in securing operational and game licenses, a feat not achieved since 2004.

The "Queen" now gets its "Home," which AEK BC has already turned into a "Palace," the SUNEL Arena, and indeed turned it into what is known - and all bodies confirm it - with its own money and without waiting for state concession decisions to start the procedures, and is going to spend more money soon, in order to utilize it even more, with announcements for its redevelopment with world-class projects to follow in the near future.

The club views this broad parliamentary acceptance of its requests as validation of its twelve-year efforts and a confirmation that AEK BC is on the right path. The 49-year stadium concession, alongside the club's achievements including four trophies, an international film, and numerous social responsibility initiatives, forms the foundation for future development and ensures the club's long-term future.
