AFAD issues rainfall alert for 20 provinces, warning of heavy downpours

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has issued a severe weather warning, forecasting heavy downpours and thunderstorms across 20 provinces. The alert specifically targets areas in the Black Sea, Central Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, and Mediterranean regions. Officials are urging citizens to exercise caution and take necessary precautions against potential hazards such as floods, landslides, and disruptions to transportation. According to AFAD's social media announcement, based on the latest information from the General Directorate of Meteorology, localized heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Affected areas include the provinces of Ordu, Trabzon, Rize, Giresun, and Artvin. Central Anatolian provinces such as Niğde, Kayseri, Sivas, Yozgat, Çorum, Amasya, and Tokat are also expected to experience strong thunderstorms. Eastern Anatolian provinces including Erzincan, Erzurum, Kars, Ardahan, Gümüşhane, and Bayburt are under similar warnings. Additionally, the southern parts of Kahramanmaraş, eastern Adana, northern Hatay, and Osmaniye provinces are anticipated to face localized heavy thunderstorms. AFAD emphasized the importance of citizens heeding warnings from relevant authorities to mitigate risks including lightning, local hail, strong winds during rainfall, and potential transportation disruptions.
