Missing Man Found in Rize River; Rescue Worker Dies in Bot Accident

The body of Volkan Civelekoğlu, a 23-year-old man who had been missing for two days, was recovered from the Fırtına River in the Çamlıhemşin district of Rize, Turkey. The discovery was made on the second day of search operations.

Tragically, during the process of retrieving Civelekoğlu's body from the water, a boat carrying AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) personnel capsized. The accident occurred as the river's flow rate increased. The boat overturned in the strong current, throwing four AFAD personnel into the water.

While three of the affected AFAD members were rescued by other teams, one personnel member lost their life in the incident. The three rescued individuals were taken to the hospital as a precaution and are reported to be in good condition. The bodies of Volkan Civelekoğlu and the deceased AFAD member were taken to the morgue after preliminary examinations at the scene.

An investigation into the incident has been launched. The events highlight the dangers faced by rescue teams operating in challenging natural conditions. The initial search for Civelekoğlu began after his family reported him missing when he did not return home.
