AfD youth leader injured in Schwerin demonstration attack

Michael Schumann, the Hamburg state chairman of the AfD youth organization Generation Deutschland, was assaulted and injured on the sidelines of a demonstration in Schwerin. Police reported three suspects in connection with the attack. The AfD Hamburg issued a statement accusing Antifa of the assault and alleging police inaction.

According to a police spokesperson, the incident occurred as attendees were gathering before the main event. The AfD stated that Schumann required hospital treatment, and the magazine "Nius" published a photograph showing him with a bleeding head wound.

The demonstration, titled "Day of German Youth," drew approximately 420 Generation Deutschland supporters to Schwerin's Alter Garten. They were met by about 460 counter-demonstrators who attempted to drown out the rally with loud chants. Fences were erected to keep the two groups separated. Some counter-demonstrators also attempted to block the Generation Deutschland march through the city with sit-ins, but these efforts were unsuccessful due to a last-minute route change by organizers, facilitated by police.

A large police contingent, including officers from Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia in addition to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, was deployed throughout Schwerin's city center to manage the situation.
