AfD youth to demonstrate in Schwerin; counter-protests planned

The AfD's youth organization, Generation Deutschland, is set to hold a demonstration in Schwerin on August 1, 2026. The event, dubbed "Tag der Deutschen Jugend" (Day of German Youth), is scheduled to take place on the Alten Garten and has an anticipated attendance of 500 participants, followed by a planned march through the city.

Authorities are anticipating a significant turnout, with six counter-demonstrations also registered. One of these counter-protests will occur in close proximity to the AfD youth event. Police expect attendees for both the demonstration and counter-demonstrations to travel from all over Germany, necessitating a large-scale security operation. To manage the situation, police forces from other federal states have been called in for support.

Key speakers at the "Tag der Deutschen Jugend" event are expected to include Leif-Erik Holm and Enrico Schult, both state chairmen of the AfD in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Jean-Pascal Hohm, the federal chairman of Generation Deutschland, and Alexander Tschich, the state chairman in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, are also scheduled to speak.
