AfD YouTuber with Croatian mother says Germany is now full of hope

Michelle Gollan sees hope where others see fear. Speaking at the AfD’s election-night headquarters in Magdeburg, the young YouTuber said she believed “the whole of Germany is now truly full of hope” after projections showed the party winning 44% of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt.

Her assessment stood in sharp contrast to the mood described in other party headquarters and television studios. There, the focus was on fear and uncertainty over what the first victory by a far-right party in a German state since World War II could mean.

Gollan is an open AfD supporter on her YouTube channel, “eingollan,” where she has slightly more than 300,000 subscribers. She lives in Berlin and has been working as an influencer for three and a half years. She began supporting the AfD about a year ago. Her mother is from Croatia.

AfD leader Alice Weidel recently told Gollan that she was doing a “mega important” job and that patriots like her were needed to help save Germany. Gollan has also defended Ulrich Siegmund, the party’s prominent figure in Saxony-Anhalt, rejecting Der Spiegel’s description of him as Germany’s “most dangerous man” and calling him “the most honest man in Germany.”

In a video interview, Gollan discussed her reaction to the AfD’s projected victory, her work as an influencer, and why the party embraces figures like her while strongly disliking journalists from traditional media.
