Africa grows more tobacco while spending more on imported cigarettes, WHO says

Tobacco-leaf production is falling worldwide, but Africa is moving in the opposite direction, according to a new analysis by the World Health Organization.

The analysis found that production on the continent rose by almost 9% between 2012 and 2024. Globally, tobacco-leaf production declined by nearly 19% during the same period.
