African players in Europe: Mbeumo fires solo goal as United draw

Bryan Mbeumo scored a superb solo goal for Manchester United, but the team surrendered its lead twice in a 2-2 Premier League draw with Everton.

The Cameroon striker struck in the 46th minute, racing through before driving a powerful finish past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. It was Mbeumo’s second goal in three games this season, following his goal in a 5-2 win over Ipswich.

In Spain, Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe opened the scoring for Villarreal with his second goal of the season, curling the ball into the net after Deportivo La Coruna’s goalkeeper came out and failed to reach it. Villarreal ultimately lost 3-2.

Deportivo’s victory owed much to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The 37-year-old former Gabon international set up goals for Luismi Cruz and Zakaria Eddahchouri before scoring himself in the closing stages. It was his fourth goal in four games.

In Italy, Senegal winger Assane Diao scored in each half as Champions League qualifiers Como recovered from behind to beat Genoa 4-1. In Germany, Guinea international Serhou Guirassy scored and assisted in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-2 comeback win over Hoffenheim. Moroccan Bilal El Khannouss also scored a standout solo goal for Stuttgart in a 4-1 victory over Cologne, collecting the ball outside the box, nutmegging two defenders and firing into the bottom-left corner.
