After defeat in Croatia – 'Kauno Žalgiris' triumph in city derby

Kauno Žalgiris claimed a decisive 2-0 victory over Hegelmann in a local derby match, propelling them to the summit of the TOPLYGA league standings. The win marks a significant achievement for the team, showcasing their strong performance in the league.

The match began calmly, with both sides having early opportunities. However, the deadlock was broken in the 32nd minute when Carlos Duke of Hegelmann lost possession near his own penalty area. Motiejus Burba capitalized on the error, setting up Leo Ribeiro for the opening goal. Just five minutes later, Kauno Žalgiris extended their lead. Following a pass from Ribeiro, Burba found the back of the net, capitalizing on an open opportunity to double their advantage.

In the second half, Hegelmann attempted to narrow the deficit. Vilius Armanavičius had a chance, but the Kauno Žalgiris goalkeeper, Tomas Švendkauskas, made the save. Later, Amine Benchaibas's header and Anthony Kalikas's attempt were also thwarted by the opposing defense and goalkeeper Lukas Paukštė.
