After fatal BMW crash killing two, 19-year-old driver's stepfather says more information is available

A devastating car crash in Vilnius early Saturday morning claimed the lives of an 18-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man, with a 19-year-old driver now facing charges. The incident occurred on Žirmūnų Street when the BMW 530e she was driving collided with a lamppost and caught fire.

The driver, who sustained injuries, was hospitalized and subsequently released on Monday. Police reported that she had a blood alcohol content of 0.58 permille at the time of the accident. She has been issued a summons to report to the police and faces charges related to causing the fatal collision.

A court has imposed a pre-trial measure on the driver, requiring her to not leave the country and to surrender her documents. The driver herself briefly shared her account, telling news portal 15min that another car forced her towards the sidewalk, leaving her with no escape route. She expressed feeling guilty for surviving the crash.

The driver's stepfather, Vladimir Krot, told news portal tv3.lt that the family possesses more information than has been publicly disclosed. "We are waiting for the lawyers. He indicated a desire to release all the information they have but are awaiting legal counsel's advice on how to proceed.
