The death of a two-month-old baby, diagnosed with Patau syndrome, has brought to light a complex situation involving the family and state child welfare services. The infant's mother had shared the family's grief and their request for support on social media.

According to the lawyer's assistant, Dalia Jasevičienė, the family sought assistance after child welfare authorities decided to remove the baby. The infant, born in late May, reportedly died on Sunday. Jasevičienė stated that child welfare services, possibly unaware of the infant's death, made the decision to take the child on Tuesday, citing concerns that the mother might not be feeding the baby.

It was very painful for us to see them taking blood and all sorts of tests, doing radiation on the child, so we wrote to the clinics saying we refuse all these tests, so that the child could strengthen now, so they wouldn't take blood from him, so that for every test they want, they would ask for our written signature.

The baby's father spoke to the media, explaining that the infant had been admitted to Kaunas clinics. He claimed the family had requested that further tests and procedures, including blood draws and radiation, be stopped.
