After Swatantra Bhardwaj’s arrest, complaint filed against Nishu Azaad and her father over alleged insults to Hindu gods

A complaint has been filed against student protester Nishu Azaad and her father, Sanjay Azaad, at Delhi’s Cyber Police Station, alleging that posts on their social media accounts insulted Hindu gods. The complaint follows the arrest of viral Hindutva influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj and a continuing dispute over his reported claim that he “cracked” Sanjay Azaad’s skull during a protest at Jantar Mantar.

Supreme Court lawyer Amita Sachdeva filed the complaint. She alleged that four posts on the X account @Nishuazad11, published between September 2023 and August 2026, contained derogatory references to Bhagwan Shiv, Bhagwan Shri Krishna, Maa Saraswati and Maa Durga.

Sachdeva asked police to register a case under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, concerning deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings, and Section 196, concerning the promotion of enmity between groups on religious grounds. She also cited applicable provisions of the Information Technology Act.

I am a practising Hindu. I viewed the posts listed below on X, formerly Twitter, while at the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi. The posts remain publicly available and have outraged my religious feelings and those of other Hindus.

In the complaint, Sachdeva said she was a practicing Hindu and that the posts remained publicly available after she sought their removal. She requested preservation of the posts, related media, platform records, IP logs, device details and other electronic evidence, as well as steps to prevent further circulation.

The complaint identifies Nishu as a minor and names her father as her guardian. Sachdeva asked authorities to investigate whether the account was operated by a minor in his household and whether the allegedly offending material remained online despite notice.
