After Witkoff’s Visit, a Warning: This Rake Has Been Stepped on Before

Linas Linkevičius has issued a warning after U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv without producing a breakthrough in negotiations.

The former long-serving Lithuanian foreign minister said Russia may once again be offered inducements. In his view, that approach risks repeating a pattern that has already failed several times.

Linkevičius argued that strict sanctions remain the most effective way to force Russia to negotiate without allowing Moscow to dictate the terms. The visits, he said, did not change the broader picture: earlier attempts to achieve progress through similar efforts had also been unsuccessful.
