Age is just a number as Roar announce youngest-ever A-League manager

Brisbane Roar has made A-League history by appointing 27-year-old Johnathan Clemente as the youngest-ever manager for their women's side. Clemente, who arrives on a two-year contract, previously worked as an assistant coach for the Melbourne Victory's A-League Women's team.

Clemente expressed his honor at the opportunity, drawing parallels between his own ambitious journey and the club's foundations. "We've been hungry, ambitious and have spent the past few years building strong foundations. Now it's our time to come together and establish ourselves at the pinnacle of women's football in this country," he stated.

Despite his youth, Clemente brings significant coaching experience. He was the youngest head coach of a National Premier League side at 20, developing 10 players for A-League squads during his tenure at Heidelberg United. He also managed various programs at Melbourne Victory.

The Roar finished fourth last season and narrowly missed the grand final. Clemente plans to build on the existing work, focusing on consistency and an upward trajectory. "Our team will be built around shared principles, not set structures, with the objective being not how we play, but how we feel," he explained, aiming for fluid football that inspires young players and fans.

Alex Smith and the squad were tremendous last season, finishing fourth and were one game away from a grand final, with a host of exciting, young, local talent. I'll be looking to build on the great work, create consistency and continue the upward trajectory of the program.

Sporting director James Gow highlighted Clemente's clear vision and extensive experience in the A-League Women's space during the recruitment process. Clemente's appointment surpasses previous record holders, Jess Fishlock and Alex Epakis, who were both 29 when they took charge of their respective teams.
