Agriculture Ministry to Hold First Pet Grooming Competition, With NT$6,000 Top Prize

Taiwan’s Agriculture Ministry is turning pet grooming into a national student competition as demand for professional groomers grows alongside the expanding pet market.

The inaugural Agriculture Ministry Pet Grooming Competition will take place on Dec. 5. Registration is open until the end of October to students enrolled in pet grooming programs at accredited high schools and colleges.

The contest will have two divisions: one for Level C certified technicians and another for contestants without that qualification. Students who hold the Ministry of Labor’s Level C pet grooming certificate can register directly. Schools may recommend promising students who do not yet hold the certificate, with each school allowed to nominate up to four contestants.

Awards will include outstanding, excellent and honorable-mention categories, with the top prize worth NT$6,000. Organizers will also offer a special award to contestants who received their Level C certificate within the previous two years and recognize high-performing schools. The ministry said the event aims to encourage students to develop professional skills.
